Research Data Services (RDS) is ready to help you at multiple stages of research for any data-oriented project involving either quantitative or qualitative data. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned data wrangler, the Library provides instruction in data analysis and management that can help you. Due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts, fall semester consultations and workshops are being conducted remotely over Zoom.
StatLab offers consultation, collaboration, and training in support of data science, applied statistics, and scientific computing, and assists with study design and statistical planning for grant proposals, helps with data visualization and presentation, consults on statistical methods, aids in interpretation of statistical analysis, and more. To set up an appointment, contact statlab@virginia.edu.
Data Discovery and Access will help you to find and use data sources, software tools, and databases licensed by the Library, and can help you to understand data documentation and codebooks. Learn more about Library data resources by visiting Library data collections and the Data Sources Guide, and contact Data Librarian Jenn Huck at data@virginia.edu to schedule an appointment.
Research Software Support will help you obtain, install, and use UVA licensed statistical, mathematical, and scientific software packages that you can access through Remote Apps (which replaced UVA Hive on October 5, 2020), download from UVA Software Gateway, or use via computers throughout the libraries.
Research Data Management (RDM) offers consultation on collecting, organizing, documenting, storing, sharing, and preserving your research data after your project is complete. You can email RDM librarian, Bill Corey, at dmconsult@virginia.edu to set up an appointment and view the Research Data Management Guide for the most current information available.
RDS Fall Workshops on data analysis, statistics, computation, and Library resources and methods are being taught online this semester due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts. Visit the Library Events calendar to register for a workshop.
Other RDS projects and partnerships include:
- PhD Plus training, a multi-part data science series offered through PhD Plus in collaboration with Research Computing and Health Sciences Library.
- Cross-team study on supporting big data research at UVA, through Ithaka S+R, in collaboration with Research Computing and the School of Data Science.
- Democratization of data efforts with the Equity Center, providing frontline worker statistical analysis for the Charlottesville Region COVID Equity and Recovery Datahub and Voices for Equity projects.
