Library Services Shift to Support Distance Learning

As the UVA Community quickly shifts into online learning, the Library is working non-stop to equip educators and students with materials they need to continue classes while practicing essential safe social distancing.

Locations and Hours

For anyone local, please check our Hours page before visiting, as the situation is evolving and hours are subject to change.

On the whole, the CDC is currently recommending avoiding being out in public. However, if you must be in public, CDC recommends 6 feet of distance between individuals. Libraries are adjusting furniture and service placement accordingly. Please be considerate of staff and other patrons and do not come to the Library if you are sick or if you may have been exposed to someone who is.

Resources for Distance Learning

Below are a few other things you may find helpful. More information is available on our COVID-19 Library Resources page.

We’re doing all we can to ensure no one needs to visit Grounds in person. To that end…

Textbooks

We know folks need course materials, and we’re working hard to deliver those electronically through our Learning Management Systems.

Scanning

If you need non-textbook materials, or worry your textbook isn’t being addressed, please:

  1. Attempt to locate the item in Virgo and submit a request (ILL or LEO) – this puts the item most efficiently into our workflow;
  2. or, if you don’t find what you need, email 4leo@virginia.eduwith details of your request.

Fines/fees/due dates

All overdue fines are suspended, including for ILL items. Due dates have been extended to the end of the semester, and will extend further if the situation necessitates.

Help for Educators, Help for Students

We’ve created a guide for Educators and one for Students, each highlighting services that may be of use as you pivot to online instruction.

Additionally, we remain reachable through Ask a Librarian chat, email, and phone, to answer questions and get you what you need.

Read more about items above and more on our COVID-19 Resources page.

Most importantly…

We want to thank all of you for your patience and kindness as we all work hard to adjust to these extreme circumstances. Be safe, stay home whenever possible… and we can’t wait to see you in person on the other side.

Be aware. Be thoughtful. Be kind. Before entering this building, please consider the following: wash your hands; cover your cough; sick? Stay home.
