Don’t let your love go unrequited — check out the Library’s Research Data Services, where we love everything data, and please attend one of the following workshops to find out how loving data can spice up your research:
- Organizing for Transparent and Reproducible Research: Learn what documents to create and preserve, and lock up those research fundamentals!
- Python and APIs: An API provides information for use in new contexts. Learn the basics of how to tap into this powerful tool.
- Bayesian Data Analysis: Learn the basics of running and interpreting a Bayesian data analysis in R.
- Converting Jupyter Notebooks to Run as a Batch Job: Learn how to convert a notebook to code and submit the code as a batch job.
If you can’t make a session, you are welcome to reach out to the instructor for a one-on-one consultation. Love Data Week is a great time to try something new!
What we do
Did you know that the Library can help with finding and using data and statistics for analysis, year round? Your ideas might be in the early planning stages of a project, or maybe you know exactly what data you want but still need advice on how to access it. Our Data Librarian can help!
Once you have your data, StatLab provides free statistics consulting and training to UVA students, faculty, and staff. StatLab can help with cleaning and wrangling data, selecting the right statistical method, implementing and interpreting statistical analysis, data visualization, and more. We can help you no matter your experience level. We love doing one-on-one consultations, or you can drop by during StatLab Office Hours. Scholars’ Lab also supports UVA researchers with text analysis and spatial technology, including GIS. If you need help obtaining or installing licensed research software, reach out to Research Software Support.
After your project is complete, you may need to post your data to a repository. You can reach out to a subject librarian to help you find a data repository ’s a good fit for your work. You can post your final-version data (and code!) to our local data repository, LibraData — a great resource when you’re trying to meet grant or journal requirements.
In addition to year-round services, we host training workshops. Come learn about R, Python, the command line, qualitative research software, Tableau, strategies for reproducibility, and more. We partner with Research Computing to offer a wide variety of training topics!
Here at UVA Library, we love data and we know you do, too. Come find us at one of our workshops or at a consultation soon!
