Whitney Buccicone recently joined the UVA Library as the Head of Special Collections Technical Services. Ms. Buccicone came to UVA from the Pacific Northwest, where she was Special Collections Cataloging Librarian at the University of Washington in Seattle. Prior to that, she was a rare books cataloger at the Lilly library, Indiana University, where she received her MLIS as well as her MA in Arts Administration.
At UVA, Ms. Buccicone will be leading the archives and rare book cataloging staff at the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library and will focus on examining current descriptive practices through a reparative framework. She will work as part of our curatorial team to enhance and develop collections, will work with staff on space planning for onsite and offsite storage, and will participate in instruction programs as well as in our public service rotation.
Ms. Buccicone is active in the American Library Association and currently serves as an At-Large Councilor. She is a member of Association of College and Research Libraries, the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, and the Rare Books and Manuscripts Division. She is a co-editor of the Journal of Radical Librarianship, and a reviewer for Reading Room: A Journal of Special Collections.
