The Library welcomes Fang Yi and Bethany Mickel who begin today, October 3, as part of the Library’s Teaching & Learning team. Fang is the team’s new Educational Technologist, and Bethany is the Teaching and Instructional Design Librarian.
Fang comes to UVA after graduating from Columbia University Teachers College with an M.A. in instructional Technology and Media. She also holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Communication Engineering from Jilin University in China, and an M.S. in Communication and Information Systems from Peking University. Fang will teach classes and workshops in the Robertson Media Center to support student skills in the creation and production of media; she will provide technology expertise and consultation to faculty and students, and blend new technologies into classroom instruction.
Bethany comes to UVA from James Madison University where she was part the Library’s instruction team. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology from Bloomsburg University, and a Masters in Library and Information Science from Kent State University. She has taught first year writing at Juniata College in Pennsylvania, and was an instructor and content developer for an online high school. Bethany will teach in-person classes, create online learning tools that support students’ independent exploration of library resources, and will engage with faculty to integrate concepts and skills into the curriculum.
