UVA Library Sponsors Edit-a-Thon on Sexual Violence at Universities

On Wednesday, April 13, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. in Alderman 421, the University Library, in conjunction with Take Back the Night, will hold an Edit-a-Thon to get individuals involved in providing the public with accurate information on the subject of Sexual Violence at Universities. Participants will receive instruction in editing Wikipedia pages, and the opportunity to edit them in workshops.

Please come out and support the cause. Bring a laptop and any resources you would like to use as references (UVA has resources to help).  Bring a camera to take pictures if you like. Anyone who does not already have a Wikipedia user account will be able to create one on the spot. Visit Facebook to learn more about the upcoming Edit-a-Thon.

EDIT-A-THON SCHEDULE:

  • 10:00 a.m., Overview of goals and Wikipedia “How Tos.” Breakfast will be served (bagels & coffee).
  • 11:00 a.m., Editing workshops and direct editing of Wikipedia pages
  • 12:30 p.m., “Lunch n’ Learn”—scholars will discuss why “Edit-a-Thons” are necessary and get into the larger questions of gendered inequality on Wikipedia. Lunch will be catered by Take It Away.
  • 1:00–4:00 p.m., Editing workshops and direct editing of pages
