Will Rourk Joins with UVA Faculty to Model Interactive Tibetan City

The Fall 2016 issue of UVA’s Arts Magazine features an article about a project funded by the the Mellon Foundation, and led by Cultural Heritage Data Specialist Will Rourk of the Library Scholars’ Lab, director of UVA’s Tibet Center David Germano, Associate Chairman of Religious Studies Kurtis Schaeffer, and Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture Guoping Huang, to harness 3D gaming technology in the service of Tibetan studies and digital scholarship.

library-research-credit-will-rourk-extrax800Working with maps it created of the historic Tibetan capital Lhasa, the team wants to take researchers as far back in history as the mid-17th century, allowing them “to interact directly with every building and object, all of which are linked to the Tibetan and Himalayan Library’s Places Database.”
