UVA Librarian Sherry Lake Selected by SHARE as Curation Associate

The Library is proud to announce that SHARE (Shared Access Research Ecosystem)—a “higher education initiative whose mission is to maximize research impact by making research widely accessible, discoverable, and reusable”—has selected our own Sherry Lake, Scholarly Repository Librarian for Content Stewardship, as one of only thirty-five persons nationwide to serve in its inaugural cohort of Curation Associates.

Sherry works in the Scholarly Repository Services group, and has a key role in the Library’s implementation of the new Libra Data Repository, including direct ties to the SHARE initiative. She’s looking forward to SHARE’s “service-learning” setting “where the associates work together learning skills to enhance institutional repositories.” She plans to apply what she learns to make our own “repository materials discoverable and ‘harvestable’ from non-UVA sites,” and is sure that the skills she takes away from collaborations with colleagues in her new position will help with current and future development of our repositories.

According to Chip German, Senior Director of Content Stewardship, SHARE has honored Sherry in “recognition of her expertise and her history of significant contributions to national initiatives on management of research data.” As a “closet cataloger and a former programmer,” Sherry looks forward to putting these two skills together.
